Master Joćo Grande, one of the greatest capoeira masters ever, currently lives in New York, where he teaches his art. He has received an honorable doctorate in recogniztion of his knowledge and work. He was a disciple of Master Cobrinha Verde and the great Pastinha.

Master Canjiquinha said this of Joćo Grande: "It was God who commanded Joćo Grande to play capoeira".
